Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
There are many components that make up a lift truck. The lift truck's major components consist of the truck frame, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Additionally, a forklift has various types of attachments. All the parts making up a lift truck are of equal importance because they work together to make the equipment's functions possible. The next paragraphs describe in detail a few of the lift truck components.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the equipment operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls in the cab or hurt the operator. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on various models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical forklift part made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move upwards and down whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast could be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and other kinds of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To be able to allow the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage could have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack which prevents a load from falling backwards while the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - a range of attachments could be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common attachment is forks. Moreover, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and so on. These various types of attachments are very useful for moving various kinds of loads.
