Forklift Classifications
The following forklift classes describe the application and fuel option of each forklift. Certification is truly needed for each class of forklift which the operator will be utilizing.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts come with either pneumatic or cushion tires. Pneumatic tires are suggested for outdoor use during dry conditions. The cushion tired models are designed for indoor surfaces which are smooth. These are electrically powered vehicles which use industrial batteries, that make them suitable within closed environments where air quality is a problem. Hoist functions and travel are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units normally utilized everywhere from the loading dock to the storage facility.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
This particular forklift is recommended for locations where narrow aisles have to be negotiated. They are efficient at making the most of storage space. Their unique design makes them ideal where speed is needed and for small spaces.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These hand-controlled, battery-powered models are designed for the operator to stand in front of the truck and control the lift using a steering tiller. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved sideways to steer the vehicle. The smaller capacity units use industrial batteries.
