History
In 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was founded by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was acquired by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machinery. In the year 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand in the following years.
