There are actually a variety of different ways that raise or lower lifts on a lift truck: rack and pinion lifts, scissor lifts, screw lifts, telescoping lifts and articulated lifts. Scissor lifts employ crisscrossed folding supports and a screw system used to draw the members together. Rack and pinion lifts use a pinion, that is a small drive gear, to drive a straight-toothed rack to raise the cargo. The telescoping lift mechanism is designed with multiple parts which extend and retract into and out of each other to attain lifting action. Screw lifts utilize threads to raise the lift. Articulated lifts use a system which involves multiple parts that articulate or unfold. An example of an articulated lift is the "cherry picker."
Forklift Material Handling
There are many reasons to keep up with changes in material handling processes. Material handling tools and the processes can be utilized to deal with more SKUs, increased geographical coverage, and the need to lower inventories. Machines that are well ahead of the technological curve can help productivity maximization and increase profitability.
Lift truck Battery & Charging Technology
The latest innovations on electric forklifts have yielded longer run-times and higher capacities than ever before, that makes the decision to convert from the conventional internal combustion lift truck over to the improved electric units. Battery and charger combinations are providing much more power for longer periods than older systems were capable of accomplishing. Enhancements in battery and charger technologies are not just making electric lift trucks more beneficial but they are making it possible to have warehouse operations that are more environmentally friendly.
These new batteries are known as Lithium-Ion Batteries or Li-ion batteries. This technology is still somewhat new, however Li-ion batteries show remarkable promise. They are not only smaller but are capable of holding up to six times the charge of traditional lead acid batteries. Li-ion batteries have very low maintenance needs and are able to maximize opportunity charging through zero memory technology.
